Communications, Marketing, and Outreach Coordinator | Assistant to the Editors

  • Reviewed, evaluated, and drafted budget justifications based on the journal’s revenue from 2020 (subscriptions 33%, SSHRC 16%, UBC grants and other funding sources 51%), which included assessing the journal’s student/staff labour and projecting upcoming production costs in SSHRC Budget Justification & Publication Plan which resulted in successful 2021 SSHRC application to the 3-year, $90,000 Aid to Scholarly Journals fund
  • Collected and analyzed data from CanLit’s websites and our three international aggregators (between 1 June 2019 and 31 May 2021) to determine readership and impact totalling an estimated 300,000+ website visits with the journal’s content being accessed from 197 countries worldwide through over 23,000 institutions 
  • Initiated investigation to draft project plan and budget justification for potential application to 2023 SSHRC Connection Grant to support outreach activities, worth up to $50,000 over one year, following Editor-in-Chief’s lead, for CanLit led publishing workshop for emerging and early-career scholars, including pursuing in-kind contributions from sponsoring organizations for matching funding 
  • Managed and cultivated CanLit’s digital presence through social media accounts, increasing CanLit’s following by 62% on Twitter and 65% on Facebook, as well as created a new Instagram account that has gained 1,000+ followers in under six months
  • Assisted in managing and mentoring six student-staff members since the fall of 2021, including performing crucial administrative tasks during incoming/outgoing staff transitions and when staff members are on leave or vacation
  • Led the ongoing implementation of CanLit’s rebranding campaign, including hiring a student through provincially funded UBC Arts Amplifier program, creating surveys to collect data on user engagement, updating digital signage, eliminating ableist language, and ensuring consistency across platforms

  • Promoted and helped facilitate the Creative Engagement department’s online programming, coordinating 60+ Talent Accelerator participants and 80+ LAB attendees
  • Increased year-round outreach from 160 to 260+ contact organizations and established 65 confirmed community partnerships crucial for online festival opening night coordination of screening in 50 cinemas across BC

  • Ran UBC Programming logistics for Federation of the Humanities and Social Sciences’ Congress flagship events, including Elder welcomes and opening reception, as well as six President’s receptions and six Big Thinking lectures where I escorted and prepped internationally recognized figures including David Suzuki, Esi Edugyan, and Stan Douglas
